The Psychology Department offers an intensive externship focusing on psychological assessment.
Students have the opportunity to complete psychological assessments with a diverse inpatient
population of children, adolescents and adults. Students receive individual supervision as well
as participating in a weekly testing seminar. In addition, students have the opportunity to
participate in treatment planning with the multidisciplinary team for the patients that they
are testing.
The externship is restricted to doctoral candidates in the field of Psychology. Students are
required to work 16 to 20 hours per week. The externship extends from August to June of the
following year.

The Psychology Department offers a non-stipended internship program for doctoral candidates in the
field of psychology. This is an intensive program designed to prepare interns to function
successfully as professionals. Interns have the opportunity to conduct individual and group therapy,
participate in weekly seminars focusing on assessment and therapy, conduct psychological assessments,
provide supervision for externs, participate in multidisciplinary treatment planning teams, and
attend in-house training seminars. Interns will find that the Psychiatric Institute of Washington
services a diverse inpatient population, including, children, adolescents, and adults with a wide
range of presenting issues.
The internship is restricted to doctoral candidates in the field of psychology. We offer a two-year,
half-time internship as well as a full-time position. The internship begins in August.
